St_Patrick 17th March www.thecalltofatima.comConfession of Saint Patrick

“I, Patrick, a sinner, am the most uncultivated and the least of all the faithful, and am held in contempt by many. Yet, though I am imperfect in many things I wish my brethern to know what manner of man I am, that they may be able to understand the desire of my soul: to render somewhat to the Lord for His so great benefits.

…I was brought captive to Ireland- I was at that time about sixteen years of age and I paid no heed to the living God. I was brought captive with so many thousands of persons according to our deserts, because we turned away from God and kept not His Commandments, and were not obedient to His priests, who admonished us about our salvation.

I was as a stone lying in a deep mire but He that is mighty came and in His mercy lifted me, and indeed raised me up again and placed me on the top of the wall.

In the land of my captivity I sought Him in earnest- and there I found Him. The love of God and the fear of Him increased more and more, and my faith grew. In a single day I prayed as often as a hundred times, and by night almost as frequently, even while I was in the woods and on the mountain.

…But He knows that exceedingly do I desire to drink of His chalice- yet may it never happen to me from my God that I should ever lose His people…

I beseech whosoever shall have deigned to look at this document, which Patrick, the sinner, unlearned as is manifest, wrote in Ireland.

Let no one ever say that it was I in my ignorance who did whatever little I have done or taught, that is pleasing to God. Let it be most truly believed that it was the gift of God. And this is my confession before I die”.

Prayer to St Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland St Patrick's Day shamrock www.thecalltofatima.com

Most glorious Saint Patrick,
Bishop and Confessor,
chosen by the Almighty to be the Apostle of Ireland,
we, the children of those to whom you preached the Faith of Christ,
never to be renounced,
hail you as the wonderful instrument of God’s mercy
for the obtaining of our eternal salvation.

Most glorious Apostle and Patron of our island,
submit to the Almighty our every temporal and spiritual want,
that through your intercession,
we may be relieved, in all our necessities through life,
and when called from this world to the glory of God,
we may, to your honour,
be found worthy of the faith that is within us,
and of eternal salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

                                                Amen.

Sister Lucia of Fatima and Branca Paúl

The Personality of Sister Lucia, the last visionary of Fatima, by Dr Branca Paúl

Sister Lúcia was joyful, youthful, humble, obedient, true, frank, transparent and spontenous, radiating joy of those who live in God and for God. She was well aware of the limitations and fragility that the human existence imposed on people. She kept in her heart that certainty, that was entrusted to her by Our Lady of Fatima “…in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph.“♥♥

Sister Lucia’s major concern was the spreading of the Message of Fátima, constantly seeking to successful and exclusive fulfillment of God’s Will. She was the instrument of spreading the Divine Message, by impelling Fátima with the five continents and changing this land of Mary to the Altar of the World.

Together with Carmelite Nuns in Coimbra, Doctor Branca Paul has been participating in the creation of  the film-documentary “The Call to Fatima”, which reflects two books written by Sister Lucia, to see more information about this film-documentary, please visit http://www.thecalltofatima.com, to purchase a copy, please go to http://www.thecalltofatima.com/paypal.html  If you wish to receive a special DVD with an interview with Dr Branca Paúl on the Message of Fatima, please send your email to srluciacalltofatima@gmail.com

PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

God of compassion,
you have loved and forgiven us in Christ,
and sought to reconcile the entire human race
in that redeeming love.
Look with favour upon us,
who work and pray
for the unity of divided Christian communities.
Grant us the experience of being brothers and sisters in your love.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Pope: Lent a time for mature decisions

The 40 days of Lent, reflecting Christ’s 40 days in the desert, were the focus of Pope Benedict XVI’s catechesis this Ash Wednesday. Speaking to pilgrims in the Paul VI audience hall, the Holy Father reflected on the condition of the pilgrim Church in the “desert” of the world and history.

Pope said, that the period of 40 days “does not represent an exact chronological time, divided by the sum of the days. Rather it indicates a patient perseverance, a long trial, a sufficient period to see the works of God, a time within which we must make up our minds and to decide to accept our own responsibilities without additional references. It is the time for mature decisions”.

Pope Benedict also said: “In this “desert” we believers certainly have the opportunity to profoundly experience God, an experience that makes the spirit strong, confirms the faith, nourishes hope, animates charity; an experience that makes us partakers of Christ’s victory over sin and death through the Sacrifice of love on the Cross.

But the “desert” is also the negative aspects of the reality that surrounds us: the arid, the poverty of words of life and of values, secularism and the materialist culture, which shut people within a horizon of mundane existence, robbing them of all reference to transcendence. And this is also the environment in which the sky above us is obscured, because covered by the clouds of egoism, misunderstanding and deception. Despite this, even for the Church of today the period in the desert can be transformed into a time of grace, because we have the certainty that even from the hardest rock God can bring forth the living water that refreshes and restores”.

Sister Lucia of Fatima and the Five First Saturdays devotion

“It is true, my daughter, that many souls begin the First Saturdays, but few finish them, and those who do complete them do so in order to receive the graces that are promised thereby. It would please me more, if they did Five with fervour and with the intention of making reparation to the Heart of your heavenly Mother, than if they did Fifteen in a tepid and indifferent manner…”

Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and of the Immaculate Heart

 (Fatima, 22.03.1907- Coimbra, 13.02.2005)

Sister Lucia was born in Aljustrel, a village in the parish of Fatima, in Portugal. Together with her cousins, Blessed Francisco and Jacinta Marto, she was visited three times by an Angel (1916) and six times by Our Lady (1917), asking them to pray and do penance for the remission of sins and the conversion of sinners. Sr Lucia’s special mission was to spread  devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as the kernel of the Message of Fatima.

She joined the Congregation of St Dorothy in Spain. where she received apparitions in Tuy and Pontevedra.  Seeking a more withdrawn life in response to the Message which Our Lady had entrusted to her, Lucia later entered the Carmel in Coimbra, where she devoted herself more deeply to prayer and penance. Our Lady came for her on 13th February, 2005, and her body was laid to rest in the Basilica in Fatima on 19th February 2006.

Sister Lucia’s cause for Beatification Process was started just three years after her death, on 13th February 2008.

Servant of God, Sister Lucia, pray for us!

O Gloriosa Domina

Jesus, Son of Mary www.thecalltofatima.com             O GLORIOSA DOMINA

Hail most high, most humble one!

Above the world; below thy Son,

Whose blush the moon beauteously mars

And stains the timorous light of stars.

He that made all things, had not done,

Till He had made Himself thy son.

The whole world’s Host would be thy guest

And board Himself at thy rich breast.

                                       O boundless hospitality!

The Feast of all things feeds on thee.

Let hearts and lips speak loud and say

Hail door of life and source of day!

                                       The door was shut, the fountain sealed;

Yet light was seen and life revealed.

The door was shut, yet let in day,

The fountain sealed, yet life found way.

Glory to Thee, great virgin’s Son,

In bosom of thy Father’s bliss.

The same to Thee, sweet Spirit be done.

As ever shall be, was and is.

                                                                         (Richard Crashaw 1612-1649)
